“Increase income for
street garbage collectors
by eliminating the
middleman”.Vision/ Mission :
Vision /Mission:
Help the underprivileged by offering employmentas well as
help the environment by supporting plastic companies by
supplying their obligatory raw material that we can produce.
Business objective:
Create employment for street children as well as adults who
work similar jobs as tokais everyday for meager earnings paid
by the middlemen. Process scrap plastics collected as a raw
material and supply the raw material to existing plastic
companies. What is the Social Problem :
i) Street workers collecting waste are not
fairly compensated for their work due the
middleman pocketing the lion’s share of
profits.
ii) Plastic waste not only hurt the
environment but also makes Dhaka city an
aesthetically unpleasant place to live.
.How it can be overcome:
Systemize the work of people on the street
who collect scrap garbage and give them
opportunities for employment and make
it more efficient/profitable so that they
may be paid fair market wages
If this idea interests you I suggest you chat further with mostofa who is seeing how this idea can transfer from dhaka where youth fans of yunus invented it to Indian the city of lucknow where one school is responsible for future livelihoods of about 25000 teenagers and has the sorts of spaces across the city needed to accomodate the 50000 children it educates each year
stage 0 a youth lab asks teenagers or college students to design an idea for generating revenue or filling a service that their community is badly missing
stage 1 winners get a stall for a week in a busy market place or student space - this may test out whether selling a product makes a profit or it may be there to see it eg students want to assemble a team to prototype a service during their next vacation
stage 2 works out next stage of funding surviving concepts need; while even concepts that fail brief what students learnt in such a way that the knowhow keeps accumulating - think of students both having access to a permanent market if stalls and a blog
possibly each city is collaboratively different in terms of what makes a youthlab sustainable -or each major practice area- one where there are lots of open tech youth may be different than one where there are lots communally caring about nutrition or local health
in dhaka's case dr yunus has now hosted nearly 100 entries that have got to the stall stage - and looking at all the different app ideas of students is a treasure trove of SME action learning in its own right
as written in lucknow mostofa can test to see if the world larges pro=youth schooling system sustain youthlab whereas in dhaka it helps if your regions most famous entrepreneur will put his name to turning up and celebrating those who get to market stalls
if you have an idea on what your capital city needs to connect together for its most collaborative youth lab - discuss with all of us or ask mostofa for some more details first
thanks chris macrae
there is a next stage - once some great youthlabs are confederated how do we linkin mentor networks or fund networks or learning replication networks- but the first question is your capital or region a contender to get one of tehse going and what do you need to get active
